About the Authors
Sandy Berendes is a professional interior designer who was licensed and registered by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners in 1993. She grows in her career as a designer by continuing her education through regularly attending seminars and markets. Sandy holds workshops, teaches continuing education classes, and is a well-known public speaker on the topic of interior design and creativity. Through the last twenty years, she has passionately worked with two hundred plus clients who are updating, remodeling, or building new homes. She has also built two of her own homes, and recognizes that this is a stressful time for couples. Her “take away” after completing her design assignments for a job has been a great sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. Seeing her client’s love of her work has been a reward like none other. The cloud in all this has been witnessing the struggle between couples during the building process. Hence this book came to pass. Sandy lives in her hometown of Rapid City, S.D. in a vintage 1946 cottage home with a white picket fence in the yard and two not-so-darling cats. She is mother of two beautifully productive adult children, five princesses who are also her adored young granddaughters and one little handsome prince of a grandson.
Laura Longville and Mark her husband of 29 years built their dream home together in 2011 with the help of Sandy Berendes. Building their home together was stressful and amazing at the same time. Launching their dream came on the heels of major change in their lives. After 3 significant deaths in their family, they decided to move ahead with designing and creating the home they had been envisioning for over 25 years. Their personal experience in building their home is the foundation for Laura’s enthusiasm for the book.
For well over 29 years Laura has worked as a counselor, trainer, speaker and life coach. She founded and is CEO of Walking in Grace, Inc.; a faith based counseling and life coaching center in Rapid City, SD. Laura is also a consulting therapist for Onsite Workshops in Nashville, TN the national leader in therapeutic programs. Laura is dedicated to providing high quality therapeutic experiences by co-designing individualized intensives, retreats and workshops with clients to meet their unique needs and goals. She is married to her high school sweetheart and together they have three beautiful daughters and one son in law. They enjoy living in the picturesque Black Hills of South Dakota.
